  ojo_alamo_two.jpg - Harvey Leake holds a 1900's photo of Ojo Alamo. The John and Louisa Wetherill trading post at Ojo Alamo near Chaco Canyon. John and Louisa Wetherill arrived at Ojo Alamo trading post in 1900-1901, living here for a couple of years before leaving to manage the Chavez Trading Post near Thoreau. Clyde Corville stayed at Ojo Alamo to manage it. A severe drought in the area forced them to abandon both The Chavez and Ojo Alamo Trading Posts in 1904 moving to Chaco Canyon. Ojo Alamo means Eye and Cottonwood in Spanish and was probably named after the only Cottonwood in the area and a giant petrified wood log with an opening under it to Blue sky.
